Portugal
Here is a Platinum Medal-winning reason to explore Portuguese wine
ABOUT THIS WINE:
Ĝenerala Paixão
Vinho Tinto
From a small country comes incredible wines, which is evident in our Platinum Medal-winning brand, Ĝenerala Paixão. In the recent 2021 Winemaker Challenge International Wine Competition, wine critic and writer Rich Cook had this to say: “Here’s a ridiculously delicious blend of Castelão and Aragonez that pleases with rich black fruit, white pepper, and sexy vanilla accents on the nose and in the mouth. It finishes fully integrated and long. It’s an absolute steal for the price. More of this, please!” As he points out, Portugal is a reliable place to find delicious wines at tremendous value. And while Portugal’s wine-producing reputation may be small compared to its neighbors France and Spain, some of the most beautiful wines in Europe come from this region’s unique terroir. We invite you to pop the cork and see for yourself! Scroll through the image carousel above to learn more abo ...

WINE REGION:
Portugal
Best known for its port dessert wine, Portugal is also home to some seriously worthwhile—though frequently overlooked—red and white table wines. This small country on the Iberian Peninsula has a wide range of climates, allowing it to produce everything from light and crisp whites in the Atlantic-cooled northwest to ripe and juicy reds in the hot and hilly Douro Valley. What often sets apart Portuguese wines is that they are often made from local grapes rather than more familiar international varieties. Difficult to pronounce (but a joy to drink!), common varietals include Touriga Nacional, Tinta Cão, and Loureiro.

TASTING NOTES:

Sweet scents of vanilla, baking spices, and graphite greet the nose before diving into the wine’s full-bodied palate. Flavors of ripe blackberry and raspberry chutney are supported by firm tannins and a touch of sweetness on the finish. Serve at room temperature.

ABOUT THE BRAND:
Ĝenerala Paixão
Ĝenerala Paixão is named after someone who was a bit of an anomaly: Maria Teresinha Gomes. We chose La Ĝenerala as a symbol of our Red and White Portuguese wines because while we know the varietals in our blends, the law does not permit us to divulge them. We celebrate this secret life with a wink and a nod to those in the know.
