This lush wine comes to us from the single-vineyard AVA of San Bernabe in central Monterey County. Here, cooling ocean breezes and fog follow the path of the Salinas Valley, mitigating warm vineyard temperatures and shaping the region's moderate climate. The growing season here is long, which allows this late-budding variety to ripen well into autumn. When given time, Riesling grapes can develop a colorful and complex bouquet of tastes and textures. Enjoying the favorable conditions of the Salinas Valley—abundant sunshine tempered by cold fog and winds from the Pacific Ocean—the vineyard also benefits from multiple mesoclimates that create a 5-degree temperature fluctuation from one side to the other. This allows San Bernabe to grow cool-climate grapes like Riesling and long ripening sun soakers such as Zinfandel. Merlot, Syrah, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc also grow well in the vineyard's sandy soils.
