Pinotage

If you want to encounter a wine with everything – elegant fruits, bold style, and a hint of intangible mystery – look no further than the Composure Pinotage. This South African red is the perfect complement to a midwinter night spent by a fire. It begs you to contemplate the complex bouquet, a bouquet that is only found in wines made with this South African grape. It has dark fruit aromas that verge on raspberry but is balanced by earthy, sweet notes of smoke. We describe the flavor profile of the Composure Pinotage as the perfect balance of New and Old-World style. So, pick up a glass and take in the indelible mix of delicate and bold in this flavor-filled wine. Judges agree! It took home a Silver medal at the 2019 Texas International Wine Competition and the 2019 Monterey International Wine Competition.

WINE REGION:

Outline of South Africa

South Africa

With its mountainous, maritime-influenced winegrowing regions, South Africa produces top-quality Cabernet Sauvignon and Chenin Blanc and premium Syrah, Pinotage, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. The Dutch brought vines here back in the 1600s to satiate their thirsty sailors en route to India, but they probably never imagined just how important to the wine world South Africa would one day become. Indeed, it took centuries for South Africa to discover its full potential. Most of the country's winegrowing areas thrive in the southwest, known as the Western Cape. Its most famous regions are an easy drive from Cape Town and include Stellenbosch, Swartland, Breedekloof and Franschhoek.

One of the youngest wine varieties around. The Pinotage grape variety was created from a cross between the varietals Pinot Noir and Cinsaut. True to form, this Pinotage from South Africa exhibits aromas of raspberry, plum and tropical fruit with flavors of dark plum, boysenberries, a full-body, and hints of tarragon and mint. It's made with firm tannins in a bold and smoky style.
