Château d'Issan
Margaux AOC, France
One of fourteen Châteaus to define the Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855
ABOUT THIS WINE:
Château d'Issan
Bordeaux
We are thrilled to join Château d'Issan in celebrating its 70th harvest with this 2015 vintage blend. All in all, this 2015 was an ideal vintage. A delightfully mild spring followed by an incredibly warm and sunny month of June. A splendid summer, hot and dry confirmed the potential of the vintage. Despite some peaks in temperature, this did not stress the vines due to lack of water. The abundant rains in winter had supplied ample water in reserve to see the vineyard through the hot weather. Conditions were normal throughout the month of August. The mid-point of veraison was reached during the first week of August. The weather in September was especially favorable for both Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon at the critical time of maturation.

WINE REGION:
Margaux AOC
Margaux is one of the most important appellations in Bordeaux. It lies in the southern part of the Haut-Médoc on the Left Bank of the Gironde River. Unlike other prestigious Bordeaux appellations, Margaux's vineyards are not separated by quality. This means that vines belonging to the most celebrated châteaux often sit side-by-side with those of less exclusive wineries. All vineyards here benefit from the same gravel-rich soil and climate. Margaux wines tend to follow the typical Bordeaux blend, boasting a higher percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon than Merlot. These supple reds tend to have a strong, stable core of blackcurrant underpinned by a touch of cedar from time spent in oak. AOC (Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée) is the most prestigious of the quality tiers within France’s wine classification system. AOC-designated wines must follow multiple different rules on a broad range of topics. Wines are regulated on the appellation, varietal inclusion, production methods, alcohol levels, vineyard planting density and age of the vineyard.

TASTING NOTES:
Tobacco
Plum
Blackcurrant
It has a bright vivid bouquet with perfumed dark cherry and blueberry scents, a hint of pencil lead in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with a mineral-driven opening. Harmonious in the mouth and disarmingly silky in texture do not let its second wine status get in the way of noticing the structure towards the finish.
