ABOUT THIS WINE:

Chanmé Méchant

Chanmé Méchant

Grenache Blanc

Pays d’Oc is tucked in the southern coast of France. Bordered by the Mediterranean Sea, the appellation boasts a classic continental climate with a hot, dry growing season. Winds from the northwestern part of France blow in and relieve the warm days, giving grapes a chance to fully ripen and develop balanced and concentrated flavors. This Grenache Blanc is a delightful expression of the wines coming out of the region. Grown on land with clay and limestone soil, fruit used for this wine had low yields, but the berries had aromatic potential from the get-go. During oak aging, winemakers chose to keep this wine on the lees, stirring juice occasionally, which led to a rich mouthfeel and full-bodied texture. Featuring a light oily texture, this wine is full of stone fruit flavors and white floral notes. It is bright and fresh, holding its own against fresh dishes of all kinds. Open during ...

WINE REGION:

Outline of Pays d'Oc IGP

Pays d'Oc IGP

If you've vacationed in the south of France, you've probably visited the Pays d'Oc region. Embracing the Mediterranean from Spain to Provence, this region is famed as much for its Grenache, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay as its endless sunshine. Pays d'Oc covers non-AOC wines made across this large, sun-kissed region, known as France's "New World." Far from the regulations of the AOC system, pioneering winemakers headed here to experiment, crafting many now-famous wines that often state their grape variety on the label—not something that was common in France before then. IGP (Indication Géographique Protégée) within France’s wine classification system focuses on controlling regional and geographical origin. The category is less restrictive than the AOC classification and gives winemakers more freedom with style and taste profile when creating wines.

TASTING NOTES:

Peach

Fresh Herbs

White Flowers

"Imagine a sugarless honeydew melon, and you'll have a great idea what this bottle has to offer...delicate on the nose, with soft melon and floral aromas. The palate is equally soft, but the flavor comes on brightly, with little or no new oak." – Rich Cook, 2021 Winemaker Challenge.

ABOUT THE BRAND:

large bunches of red grapes on the vine

Chanmé Méchant

The French take their food and wine very seriously, but that does not mean they don't enjoy a bit of fun. Chanmé Méchant is a playful French "verlan"—a word that flips its sound to create a phrase that captures opposites. Chanmé, meaning enjoyable, and Méchant, meaning wicked, come together to form a fitting name for these informal French wines, which are, in fact, "Wicked Good."
