The Carneros appellation is one of the more unique AVA’s in Northern California – the region crosses into both Sonoma and Napa, and it receives significantly less rainfall than its cool climate counterparts as it is farther from the Pacific Ocean. Given the foggy mornings, warm sunny days, and cool temperatures at night, vineyards planted in Los Carneros are idyllic for Pinot Noir. The varietal requires both ample sunshine for ripening and also cool temperatures to develop concentrated flavors and retain natural acidity. This wine is a stunning example of why the area is so perfect for this fussy Pinot Noir grape. It is leaner in style but still well-rounded and full of tart red and black fruit flavors.
