ABOUT THIS WINE:

Apeloko

Apeloko

Pinotage

Creating an exceptional wine is a labor of love—just ask any farmer who grows great grapes. Beyond passion and dedication, farming grapes requires perfect weather conditions, like the cool climate that produced this crisp, classic Pinotage in 2018. This elegant wine is unmistakably South African. You’ll get a taste of the terroir in every glass with notes of fynbos (an Afrikaans word that describes the aromatic shrubs growing on the African Cape), slate, and graphite that complement a rich bouquet of chocolate-covered cherries. Enjoy this wine al fresco with pork, black beans, and sweet potato fries. Judges love it too! It took home a Silver medal at the 2020 Winemaker Challenge.

WINE REGION:

Outline of South Africa

South Africa

With its mountainous, maritime-influenced winegrowing regions, South Africa produces top-quality Cabernet Sauvignon and Chenin Blanc and premium Syrah, Pinotage, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. The Dutch brought vines here back in the 1600s to satiate their thirsty sailors en route to India, but they probably never imagined just how important to the wine world South Africa would one day become. Indeed, it took centuries for South Africa to discover its full potential. Most of the country's winegrowing areas thrive in the southwest, known as the Western Cape. Its most famous regions are an easy drive from Cape Town and include Stellenbosch, Swartland, Breedekloof and Franschhoek.

TASTING NOTES:

Chocolate

Cherry

Mineral

The main tasting note that we would like to point out on this wine is "fynbos." It's South African equivalent to the Mediterranean "garrigue." It's a low growing bush, but the term is used to describe the aromas of some of the flora that grows around the bush. A little bit of herb mixes with slate and graphite which play off of the chocolate cherry bouquet.
