Keep Reading About Lightly Sweet and Sweet Wines
What wines are sweet?
Leftover grape sugar after fermentation determines how sweet a wine tastes. This is known as residual sugar, and levels typically range from less than 1 gram per liter in dry wine styles to over 120 grams per liter in dessert wine styles. The more residual sugar a wine has, the sweeter it is. Don't be fooled by fruit intensity, which is often confused with sweetness. Many lightly sweet wines, like our selections above, have rich and ripe fruit flavors that cause them to be mistaken as sweet, even though they have low levels of residual sugar. When in doubt, reference labels and nutrition facts to find the most accurate representation of a wine's sweetness.
