An elegant, 93 point Sicilian red from Gold Medal-winning Vicino Lontano
ABOUT THIS WINE:

Vicino Lontano
Sangiovese
Sangiovese is as much a staple of Italian culture as winemaking itself. You will find this historical grape variety in vineyards across Italy, making its way into some of the country’s most famous varietal wines and blends. Our Vicino Lontano Sangiovese is a gorgeous example of a classic Italian wine style that honors centuries of tradition. From the soils of southwestern Sicily, this light and friendly wine is impeccably balanced with modest red fruit flavors, a hint of sweetness, and subtle spice. A relatively dry Mediterranean climate allows our Italian winemaking partners to take great care in selecting the perfect time for harvest. The wine then ferments at controlled temperatures in stainless steel tanks to highlight Sangiovese’s bright fruit characteristics. Each sip invites you to immerse yourself in Sicilian culture as you are transported to the sun-soaked heart of the Medite ...

WINE REGION:

Sicily / Sicilia
Even among Italy's diverse wine regions, Sicily offers something unique. Abundant sunshine, varied volcanic terroirs, cool coastal breezes and drying African winds make it a perfect place for growing vines. The island is home to many indigenous grape varieties, featuring reds such as Sangiovese, Nero d'Avola and Frappato, and popular white varieties including Vermentino, Catarratto and Zibibbo. As the largest island in the Mediterranean, Sicily's position between Europe, Africa and the Levant has long made it a strategic location. The Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans, Normans and Arabs have all at various times controlled Sicily, and left their mark on its 4,000-year-old winemaking tradition.
