Tommasi
Valpolicella DOC, Italy
A 92 point Valpolicella made from the hard work of a family with a long history of fine wine
ABOUT THIS WINE:
Tommasi
Ripasso Blend
This wine is made with a very old and traditional method of refermenting the juice from the Valpolicella on the warm Amarone grape skins, in the typical "Ripasso" method, which imparts a rich character and personality to the wine. The grapes are sourced from three of most prestigious vineyards in Valpolicella Classico owned by the Tommasi family: Conca d'Oro, La Groletta, and De Buris. A blend of 70% Corvina Veronese, 25% Rondinella, and 5% Corvinone, the wine is vinified in stainless steel so that the character of the grapes isn't over-influenced by oak at the beginning of the process. After a long aging process, this wine is ready to share and is full of complex flavors worth exploring.
NOTE: This is NOT a Firstleaf Exclusive Wine and is not eligible for discounts, member pricing, or member guarantee. Limited Availability.

Valpolicella DOC
The northern Italian area of Valpolicella is famed for its red wines. Located in Verona to the east of Lake Garda, the principal grapes here are Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara. Valpolicella is tangy and cherry-fresh, perfect with pizza and pasta. Classico and Superiore wines from hillside vineyards offer extra depth and spice notes. But for real complexity, look to Amarone della Valpolicella. Made from partially dried grapes (called "appassimento"), this full-bodied wine offers gorgeous fruit flavors and ages for at least two years in oak. There is also Valpolicella Ripasso, a wine made by putting Valpolicella through pressed Amarone grapes. The DOC (Denominazione di Origine Controllata) designation for Italian wines was introduced in the 1960s. It is the main classification system used in the country and regulates what winemakers can and cannot do regarding wine style, varietal restrictions, minimum and maximum alcohol levels, aging techniques and growing regions.
