Rancho Campo
Mendoza, Argentina
Our dark fruited Cab is dauntless and delicious
ABOUT THIS WINE:
Rancho Campo
Cabernet Sauvignon
Much like the crews who tend these vineyards, grapes from high-altitude regions like Mendoza, Argentina must adapt to extreme conditions. Our full-bodied Rancho Campo Cabernet is headstrong and rich with layers of tertiary fruit. These grapes were subjected to desert-like conditions due to towering mountain ranges blocking rain from both east and west. If it weren't for the Mendoza river, which supplies water for irrigation, life here would be almost impossible. In addition to the ever-present risk of drought, the vineyards' proximity to the sun creates another threatening factor. As elevations rise, levels of UV rays increase as much as 10-15% with every 1,000 foot gain in elevation. Luckily, wine grapes are adaptable. These Cab grapes developed thicker skins and multiplied their level of tannins to protect them from the sun's scorching rays. This results in a structured wine with a ...

WINE REGION:
Mendoza
Mendoza is the heart of Argentinian wine production. It was here where a previously little-known French grape variety called Malbec became a global superstar. With its extreme altitudes and Andean climate, Mendoza nurtures its vineyards in dramatic sun-drenched plateaus set against snow-capped peaks. At these elevations, the intense UV light ripens grapes in a unique way, working with the cold mountain air to create gloriously supple and expressive wines with bold yet brightly aromatic fruit. Mendoza's high-quality varietals from Bonarda, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are also notable, as are its fine Torrontés, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir from sub-regions such as Maipú, Luján de Cuyo and the Uco Valley.

TASTING NOTES:
Fig
Dried Herbs
Plum
This wine may seem dark and brooding, but there is beauty in its strength. Savory aromas of dried herbs and black olive lead into a palate driven by stewed fruits. Flavors of plum and fig create a slight sweetness, emphasized by restrained acidity and a plush body.
