ABOUT THIS WINE:
Masterworks Series
Vinho Tinto
Our Portuguese Vinho Tinto is an exceptional addition to Masterworks Series’ collection. This blend features 35 percent Touriga Nacional, 35 percent Tinta Roriz and 30 percent Castelão for a complex exhibit of flavor and texture. Behind the work of iconic Portuguese painter Amadeo de Souza Cardoso, whose painting you see on the label, this wine unveils enticing spice and concentrated dark fruit notes. Touriga Nacional is a treasured Portuguese variety found in many of the country’s famous wine styles, including the fortified dessert wine, port. Touriga Nacional and Castelão both contribute firm tannins and rich fruit flavors when blended. Tinta Roriz, the Portuguese name for Tempranillo, brings more fruit and soft, supple character to the overall composition. This wine is proof of how a winemaker—like a painter—can utilize the various offerings of their palate to create a masterpiece ...

WINE REGION:
Portugal
Best known for its port dessert wine, Portugal is also home to some seriously worthwhile—though frequently overlooked—red and white table wines. This small country on the Iberian Peninsula has a wide range of climates, allowing it to produce everything from light and crisp whites in the Atlantic-cooled northwest to ripe and juicy reds in the hot and hilly Douro Valley. What often sets apart Portuguese wines is that they are often made from local grapes rather than more familiar international varieties. Difficult to pronounce (but a joy to drink!), common varietals include Touriga Nacional, Tinta Cão, and Loureiro.

On the nose, this wine displays aromas of dried nutmeg and clove. The palate is full and broad, with a modest structure brought forth by oak aging. Dried blackberry flavors join mulberry and plum for a juicy mouthfeel that continues on to a fruity finish.
