Chardonnay
Despite its rainy western coast, Washington’s unique geography leaves the eastern portion of the state exceedingly warm and dry—the region has quickly become a rival to its Californian neighbors. Located between a bend in the Columbia River to the south and the Saddle Mountains to the north, the Wahluke Slope is among the warmest wine growing regions in Washington State due to its favorable southern exposure. During the growing season, the northern latitude provides long, sunny days and cool, calm nights, encouraging a full but even ripening of its grapes. These extremely dry conditions demand diligent practices in the vineyard. As a result, strictly controlled irrigation of the vines results in precise winemaking and a quality product. To preserve the integrity of the fruit, the grapes are gently pressed after harvest and left to ferment in temperature-controlled stainless steel tank ...

WINE REGION:
Washington
With 18 recognized AVAs, Washington is the second-largest wine-producing state in the United States. Most of these AVAs are located in the east, centered around the valleys of Walla Walla, the Columbia River and Yakima. The grape varieties that thrive here are numerous: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling and Pinot Gris all continue to make increasingly compelling wines. Washington wines thrive in dry, semi-arid conditions far from the Pacific Ocean and are protected from the Pacific Northwest rain shadow by the Olympic and Cascade mountain ranges. Washington owes its unique terroir to the historic Missoula Floods, which swept through the region 10,000 years ago, stripping away the earth and replacing it with sandy soils from modern-day Utah, Idaho and Montana.
