Terre di Chieti IGP
A small appellation within central Italy’s Abruzzo region, Terre di Chieti is nestled in the foothills and is home to both red and white varietals. Thanks to influences from the nearby Adriatic Sea, the region experiences a traditional Mediterranean climate. Unlike many of its counterparts throughout the country, wines from Terre di Chieti are not subject to the governance of DOC or DOCG restrictions—rather, they are subject to the IGT/IGP classification, which is simply a focus on geography. Because of this, winemakers have extreme flexibility in how they go about producing their wines. The IGP (Indicazione Geografica Protetta) classification within Italy's winegrowing and winemaking world specifically links the place or region where the fruit was grown to the quality of the finished product. It is the broadest of the classifications within the country's system.
