Bordeaux

Wines from Bordeaux are perhaps the world's most sought-after bottles, and our 2019 Bordeaux is truly one of our highest quality wines offered this year. Available only for a short time, you'll want to snatch up as many bottles of this as you can; we guarantee it! The Bordeaux region is nestled up against the Western border of France and is home to some of the oldest wineries in Europe. The Gironde River runs through the vineyards, splitting the appellation in two and creating the famous Left Bank and Right Bank designations. Left Bank wines feature mostly Cabernet Sauvignon and are considered to be better age-worthy bottles, while Right Bank wines highlight Merlot and are made to be opened soon after bottling. The appellation is known for its unique gravel-based soils — because these soils hold nutrients deep underground, typically you find vine roots burrowed far in the earth. The r ...

WINE REGION:

Outline of Bordeaux AOP

Bordeaux AOP

Probably the world's most famous wine region, Bordeaux is a true powerhouse of French quality. While Bordeaux is home to some of the country's most expensive bottles, it is also possible to find great-value wines from small producers. Almost all red and white wines from Bordeaux are blends. Reds tend to be a mix of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. But just as important as the blends are the quality of the region's terroir and unique winemaking techniques. The Bordeaux region is divided by the Gironde River into two main parts. Cabernet Sauvignon reigns supreme on the the Left Bank, while Merlot dominates the Right Bank. White wines are usually a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. The AOP (Appellation d'Origine Protégée) classification for French wine relates to wine being from a specific region that is significantly regulated. The regions are both large and small, each with its own set of rules for permitted varietals, production standards and quality control cues.

TASTING NOTES:

Plum

Violet

Baking Spice

Aromas of violet and cedar swirl out of the glass, complementing flavors of lush dark plum and blackcurrant. A hint of rich baking spices melds with mouth-coating tannins that feature a deep dark chocolate taste and lengthen the finish of every sip. Full-bodied and rich, this wine will be gone before you know it—so make sure to stock up as many bottles as you can! "Another moderately priced Bordeaux hit the Chief Judge table, this one offering a pleasant bell pepper note to the typical regional profile. That contrast serves the wine well, and it will serve you well when pairing with a roast encrusted in herbs. It's nicely balanced and well-executed." – Rich Cook, 2021 Monterey International Wine Competition.
