Caduto dalle Nuvole is a traveler’s delight. It’s the type of wine that is easy to imagine discovering on a trip to the Italian coast. It’s the type of wine that you drink chilled while watching the tide come in. It’s also the type of wine that we love to have at Firstleaf. The Caduto dalle Nuvole is full of citrus and a refreshing minerality, but there are notes that still keep us guessing. We’ve gotten wet stone and white flowers, but there is so much more. While it is a delight on its own we especially like it with fresh seafood: roasted octopus, oysters, and grilled fish. And judges love it too! It took home 90 Points and a Gold medal from the 2019 Sommeliers Challenge.

The heel of Italy's "boot," sunny Puglia (the "g" is silent), is famed for its olive oils, almonds and of course, its rich, full-bodied wines. Although dry and intensely hot in the summer, Puglia has coastlines on three sides, providing cool Mediterranean breezes to alleviate the daytime heat. Primitivo (known in the US as Zinfandel) does well here, with other popular red varieties including Sangiovese and Negroamaro. But it is not all about reds in Puglia: the local Fiano grape produces gloriously nutty, tropical-flavored white, while Falanghina makes intensely fruity wines with citrus blossom notes. The IGP (Indicazione Geografica Protetta) classification within Italy's winegrowing and winemaking world specifically links the place or region where the fruit was grown to the quality of the finished product. It is the broadest of the classifications within the country's system.
