What is Château Smith Haut Lafitte?

Château Smith Haut Lafitte is a vineyard estate in Martillac, covering approximately 80 hectares with plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon (around 60-65%), Merlot (about 30%), smaller amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, and mostly Sauvignon Blanc with some Sémillon and Sauvignon Gris. This mix supports a structured red grand vin and a lively white, complemented by second wines that offer a more approachable view of the estate’s terroir.

Winegrowing on the site dates back to 1365. The estate's name comes from George Smith, a Scotsman who owned it in the 18th century, and 'Haut Lafitte,' referring to the elevated gravel rise where the vines grow. In 1842, Lodi‑Martin Duffour‑Dubergier, then mayor of Bordeaux, inherited the property and improved it, helping establish its reputation among the leading growths of Graves.
