Old Vine Zinfandel

2006 Lodi Zinfandel

The Daou Vineyards Old Vine Zinfandel from the renowned Lodi region is a captivating expression of this classic varietal that perfectly embodies the characteristics of old vines. With a deep ruby hue, this wine enchants the senses right from the start. On the nose, you can expect inviting aromas of ripe blackberries, cherries, and a touch of spiced plum, seamlessly intertwined with hints of vanilla and tobacco that reflect its careful aging. The palate reveals a medium-full body, showcasing a remarkable balance of bright acidity that enhances its fruit-forward character. Tannins are firm yet refined, providing structure without overshadowing the wine's inherent juiciness. The lingering finish is satisfying and dry, making it a delightful pairing for rich barbecue dishes or hearty pasta. The 2006 vintage highlights the depth and complexity that only comes from carefully cultivated vines, affirming Lodi's reputation as a premier winegrowing region.

Region:

Central Valley
Central Valley

Away from the dramatically cooling influence of the Pacific Ocean, Central Valley is California's breadbasket, where much of the country's fruit, vegetables, nuts and grapes are grown. Bathed in sunshine and growing in fertile soils, Central Valley spreads 400 miles from Sacramento to Fresno. Because of its heat, the region produces abundant Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon, which soak up the sun and transform it into dense, deeply colored wine. In the region's cooler AVAs—those that lie around the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta, such as Lodi—higher acid grapes like Chenin Blanc, Colombard, Barbera and Chardonnay grow with great success.
