2007 Lodi Malbec

Witch Creek Winery's Barrel Select Malbec from the 2007 vintage showcases the strong and vibrant character typical of the Lodi region. With a deep red hue, this wine captures attention right from the glass. It presents a full-bodied profile, balanced by a medium acidity that refreshes the palate. The fruit intensity is prominent, revealing bold notes of ripe blackberries and dark plums that intertwine with hints of cocoa and spice. The tannins are firm yet approachable, contributing to the wine's structure without overwhelming the fruit. This Malbec is crafted to be dry, allowing for a clean finish that encourages one sip after another. A delightful expression of the varietal, this wine stands as an excellent representation of Lodi's winemaking potential.

Region:

Lodi

The jewel of the Central Valley, Lodi lies just east of the California Delta in an area of varied terroir. Winemakers here can extract different grape variety expressions from each plot of land. Zinfandel is common here, making deeply fruity and tantalizingly smoky wines, often from old vines. But the deep loamy soils and balmy Mediterranean climate, with its warm days and cool nights, help keep Lodi's grape varieties and winemaking styles impressively diverse. Alongside the ubiquitous Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot and Viognier also thrive. Lodi is a melting pot of different grape varieties and winemaking techniques, all of which make it a rewarding region to explore.
