Vierteljoch

2012 Burgenland Blaufrankisch

The Michael Opitz Vierteljoch is a remarkable red wine crafted from the Blaufrankisch varietal in the esteemed Burgenland region. This 2012 vintage showcases a beautiful deep ruby hue, hinting at its rich character. On the palate, it presents a full-bodied experience complemented by vibrant acidity that lends a refreshing lift to the wine. The fruit intensity is prominent, with delightful notes of dark cherry and blackberry enveloped in subtle hints of spice and earthiness. Tannins are firm yet well-integrated, providing structure without overwhelming the wine's elegant profile. This is a beautifully balanced offering, perfect for sipping on its own or enjoying alongside hearty dishes.

Austria may not be the first country that springs to mind when you think of quality wine, but this slice of central Europe is home to crisp whites and elegant reds that are well worth seeking out. While many classic grapes are grown here, there are exceptional wines made from varieties you rarely see anywhere else, such as white Grüner Veltliner. Spicy and herbaceous, this wine combines notes of white pepper and asparagus with flint and apple. As for reds, the most planted is Zweigelt. This grape is a hybrid of two other local varietals: the spicy Blaufränkisch and light St. Laurent. It combines the best of both worlds with flavors of chocolate, black pepper and fresh raspberry.
