Vicino Lontano 2018 Sangiovese Puglia IGT, Italy

2018 Puglia Sangiovese

Vicino Lontano 2018 Sangiovese from the Puglia IGT region in Italy is a charming red wine that embodies a light body and subtle acidity. The wine offers delicate fruit notes that gently linger on the palate, complemented by notable tannins that provide structure and depth. Its 2018 vintage showcases the elegant characteristics of Sangiovese, making it a delightful choice for those who appreciate a well-balanced and inviting red wine experience.

Tasting notes:

We love Sangiovese for it's punchy Italian profile. This wine has the fruit, but it also has savory spicy flavors hiding beneath. There's leather, and it tastes more aged and more settled that other wines we've tried form this vintage. It finishes with a beautiful mid-palate concentration.

Puglia

The heel of Italy's "boot," sunny Puglia (the "g" is silent), is famed for its olive oils, almonds and of course, its rich, full-bodied wines. Although dry and intensely hot in the summer, Puglia has coastlines on three sides, providing cool Mediterranean breezes to alleviate the daytime heat. Primitivo (known in the US as Zinfandel) does well here, with other popular red varieties including Sangiovese and Negroamaro. But it is not all about reds in Puglia: the local Fiano grape produces gloriously nutty, tropical-flavored white, while Falanghina makes intensely fruity wines with citrus blossom notes.
