Tator

2011 Salento Primitivo

The Poggio Le Volpi Tator from the 2011 vintage showcases the rich, intense attributes characteristic of Primitivo, hailing from the sun-kissed Salento region. This full-bodied red wine offers a mouthwatering acidity that perfectly balances its warm, ripe fruit notes, creating a delightful experience. Expect prominent flavors of dark cherries, blackberries, and hints of spice that tantalize the palate. The tannins are notably structured, providing a firm backbone while contributing to the wine's overall elegance. As an off-dry selection, it boasts a generous fruit intensity that makes it incredibly approachable and food-friendly, ideal for pairing with grilled meats or hearty pasta dishes.

Region:

Puglia
Puglia

The heel of Italy's "boot," sunny Puglia (the "g" is silent), is famed for its olive oils, almonds and of course, its rich, full-bodied wines. Although dry and intensely hot in the summer, Puglia has coastlines on three sides, providing cool Mediterranean breezes to alleviate the daytime heat. Primitivo (known in the US as Zinfandel) does well here, with other popular red varieties including Sangiovese and Negroamaro. But it is not all about reds in Puglia: the local Fiano grape produces gloriously nutty, tropical-flavored white, while Falanghina makes intensely fruity wines with citrus blossom notes.
