Sonoma Valley

Situated between the Mayacamas and Sonoma mountain ranges, wine has been made here since 1825. It is unsurprising, then, that it is home to ancient Zinfandel vines—some of which are more than a century old. You will mainly find these in the northern reaches of the valley, growing alongside Cabernet Sauvignon. The warm and sunny climate results in bold reds with concentrated fruit flavors. But that is not the entire story of this valley. For crisp and elegant wines, look to the southern stretches, where the cooling influence of the Pacific Ocean and San Pablo Bay helps to develop elegant Pinot Noir and bright, crisp Chardonnay.
