Salice Salentino

2007 Salice Salentino 80% Negroamaro and 20% Malvasia Nera

The Mocavero Salice Salentino from the 2007 vintage is a captivating red wine that showcases the bold character of the Salice Salentino region. Composed of eighty percent Negroamaro and twenty percent Malvasia Nera, this wine offers a full-bodied experience with a rich mouthfeel, complemented by a pronounced acidity that gives it a refreshing lift. The fruit intensity is high, presenting luscious notes of dark berries and cherries, intertwined with hints of spice and a subtle earthy undertone. The tannins are notably structured, providing a firm backbone that enhances the wine's complexity while ensuring a smooth finish. Its off-dry profile makes it an excellent choice for pairing with hearty dishes, embodying the warmth and tradition of its Italian heritage.

Region:

Puglia
Puglia

The heel of Italy's "boot," sunny Puglia (the "g" is silent), is famed for its olive oils, almonds and of course, its rich, full-bodied wines. Although dry and intensely hot in the summer, Puglia has coastlines on three sides, providing cool Mediterranean breezes to alleviate the daytime heat. Primitivo (known in the US as Zinfandel) does well here, with other popular red varieties including Sangiovese and Negroamaro. But it is not all about reds in Puglia: the local Fiano grape produces gloriously nutty, tropical-flavored white, while Falanghina makes intensely fruity wines with citrus blossom notes.
