Riserva

2006 Salice Salentino Negroamaro (80%) - Malvasia Nera (20%)

Cantine Paolo Leo Riserva from the esteemed Salice Salentino region presents a captivating interpretation of the Negroamaro varietal, complemented by a touch of Malvasia Nera. This full-bodied red wine showcases a deep, ruby hue that hints at its rich character. The palate is greeted by high acidity that invigorates the senses, balancing the pronounced fruit intensity, which reveals layers of dark cherry, plum, and hints of dried herbs. The tannins are notable, providing structure while allowing the wine’s complexity to shine, making it an elegant choice for both casual gatherings and formal occasions. With a dry profile, this vintage from 2006 is not only remarkable for its depth but also for its harmonious integration of flavors, ensuring a delightful sensory experience.

Region:

Puglia
Puglia

The heel of Italy's "boot," sunny Puglia (the "g" is silent), is famed for its olive oils, almonds and of course, its rich, full-bodied wines. Although dry and intensely hot in the summer, Puglia has coastlines on three sides, providing cool Mediterranean breezes to alleviate the daytime heat. Primitivo (known in the US as Zinfandel) does well here, with other popular red varieties including Sangiovese and Negroamaro. But it is not all about reds in Puglia: the local Fiano grape produces gloriously nutty, tropical-flavored white, while Falanghina makes intensely fruity wines with citrus blossom notes.
