Region:

San Bernabe

If you are looking for variety, look no further than San Bernabe. Lying in southern Monterey County, this single-vineyard AVA was created in 2004. Enjoying the favorable conditions of the Salinas Valley—abundant sunshine tempered by cold fog and winds from the Pacific Ocean—the vineyard also benefits from multiple mesoclimates that create a 5-degree temperature fluctuation from one side to the other. This allows San Bernabe to grow cool-climate grapes like Riesling and long ripening sun soakers such as Zinfandel. Merlot, Syrah, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc also grow well in the vineyard's sandy soils.
