Primitivo

2018 Puglia Zinfandel

Michele Biancardi Primitivo is a captivating red wine hailing from the sun-drenched region of Puglia, Italy, known for its rich agricultural history and ideal climate for grape growing. This 2018 vintage showcases the bold, fruit-forward character of Zinfandel, delivering luscious flavors of ripe blackberries and dark plums, underscored by delightful hints of spice and earthiness. The wine presents a full-bodied profile, with generous acidity that adds a refreshing lift, while the tannins are notably structured, providing a firm backbone that enhances its complexity. With well-balanced dryness, Michele Biancardi Primitivo is a wine that invites enjoyment alongside hearty dishes or simply on its own, offering an elegant expression of its Italian roots.

Puglia
Puglia

The heel of Italy's "boot," sunny Puglia (the "g" is silent), is famed for its olive oils, almonds and of course, its rich, full-bodied wines. Although dry and intensely hot in the summer, Puglia has coastlines on three sides, providing cool Mediterranean breezes to alleviate the daytime heat. Primitivo (known in the US as Zinfandel) does well here, with other popular red varieties including Sangiovese and Negroamaro. But it is not all about reds in Puglia: the local Fiano grape produces gloriously nutty, tropical-flavored white, while Falanghina makes intensely fruity wines with citrus blossom notes.
