Petravia

2015 Puglia Red Blend

Masseria Altemura Petravia is a captivating red blend hailing from the sun-kissed region of Puglia. This 2015 vintage showcases a deep, garnet color that hints at its rich character. On the nose, it offers an enticing bouquet of dark fruits, including black cherry and plum, complemented by subtle notes of spice and earthy undertones. The palate reveals a medium-bodied profile, with a delightful balance between smooth tannins and bright acidity, making it a food-friendly choice for a variety of dishes. The fruit intensity is prominent yet harmoniously integrated, leading to a satisfying, lingering finish that invites another sip. This wine exemplifies the warm Mediterranean climate of Puglia, allowing the grapes to fully express their exceptional qualities.

Puglia

The heel of Italy's "boot," sunny Puglia (the "g" is silent), is famed for its olive oils, almonds and of course, its rich, full-bodied wines. Although dry and intensely hot in the summer, Puglia has coastlines on three sides, providing cool Mediterranean breezes to alleviate the daytime heat. Primitivo (known in the US as Zinfandel) does well here, with other popular red varieties including Sangiovese and Negroamaro. But it is not all about reds in Puglia: the local Fiano grape produces gloriously nutty, tropical-flavored white, while Falanghina makes intensely fruity wines with citrus blossom notes.
