Passitivo

Puglia Primitivo

The Paolo Leo Passitivo, a delightful Primitivo from the sun-drenched region of Puglia, showcases a vibrant red color that catches the eye. This wine is full-bodied, offering a rich and opulent mouthfeel that perfectly complements its high acidity. The fruit intensity is pronounced, revealing luscious notes of dark berries, plum, and hints of spice that linger on the palate. Its tannins are notable, providing a firm structure that balances the wine's generous fruit character, while its dry profile ensures a clean and satisfying finish. Overall, the Paolo Leo Passitivo is a splendid example of the depth and complexity that Primitivo can achieve in the heart of Italy's winegrowing regions.

Puglia
Puglia

The heel of Italy's "boot," sunny Puglia (the "g" is silent), is famed for its olive oils, almonds and of course, its rich, full-bodied wines. Although dry and intensely hot in the summer, Puglia has coastlines on three sides, providing cool Mediterranean breezes to alleviate the daytime heat. Primitivo (known in the US as Zinfandel) does well here, with other popular red varieties including Sangiovese and Negroamaro. But it is not all about reds in Puglia: the local Fiano grape produces gloriously nutty, tropical-flavored white, while Falanghina makes intensely fruity wines with citrus blossom notes.
