Orfeo

2003 Puglia Negroamaro

The Cantini Vinagri Paololeo Orfeo, a captivating 2003 vintage from the warm embrace of Puglia, showcases the rich characteristics of the Negroamaro varietal. This red wine presents a deep ruby color that entices the eye while promising a delightful experience. Its medium body is complemented by a pronounced acidity, which adds vibrancy to each sip. The fruit intensity is remarkably prominent, offering enticing notes of dark cherries and blackberries, beautifully entwined with subtle hints of earthiness and spice. The tannins are well-structured and firm, providing a solid backbone that enhances the wine's complexity. With a delightful dryness, this wine is an excellent pairing for hearty Mediterranean dishes, making it a true gem from the sun-kissed vineyards of Puglia.

Puglia

The heel of Italy's "boot," sunny Puglia (the "g" is silent), is famed for its olive oils, almonds and of course, its rich, full-bodied wines. Although dry and intensely hot in the summer, Puglia has coastlines on three sides, providing cool Mediterranean breezes to alleviate the daytime heat. Primitivo (known in the US as Zinfandel) does well here, with other popular red varieties including Sangiovese and Negroamaro. But it is not all about reds in Puglia: the local Fiano grape produces gloriously nutty, tropical-flavored white, while Falanghina makes intensely fruity wines with citrus blossom notes.
