Octavius

2005 Barossa Shiraz

The Yalumba Octavius, a stunning example of Barossa Valley Shiraz, epitomizes a remarkable vintage with its deep ruby hue exuding elegance and richness. This full-bodied wine showcases a high level of acidity that invigorates the palate, providing a refreshing contrast to its prominent fruit intensity, which is characterized by luscious dark berry flavors entwined with hints of plum and spice. The tannins are notably structured and powerful, contributing to the wine's aging potential while seamlessly integrating with the fruit profile. As a dry wine, the Yalumba Octavius offers a harmonious balance, making it an exceptional choice for those seeking a sophisticated and intricate red wine experience.

Region:

Barossa

One of Australia's best-known wine regions, the Barossa Valley sits an hour north of Adelaide, where many of the country's most famous wineries are based. In this historic region, old bush vines—some dating back as far as 1860—produce full-bodied wines of dramatic depth and scope, principally from Shiraz, Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon. But Shiraz is the region's most popular varietal, with "Barossa Shiraz" almost a recognized brand in its own right, due to its concentrated flavors of juicy black fruit, plush tannins and the sweet spice of American oak. But whites are equally classy here, too, with Barossa's fresh, unoaked Sémillons and always captivating lush Chardonnays.
