Neprica

2014 Puglia Negroamaro, Primitivo, Cabernet Sauvignon

Tormaresca Neprica is an enticing red wine from the sun-soaked region of Puglia, expertly crafted from a harmonious blend of Negroamaro, Primitivo, and Cabernet Sauvignon varietals. This 2014 vintage showcases a medium-bodied profile, with a vivid ruby hue that beckons from the glass. On the palate, it presents a delightful balance of fruit intensity, featuring luscious notes of ripe dark berries and hints of cherry, complemented by subtle spice undertones. The acidity is bright, adding a refreshing lift that enhances the overall drinking experience. The tannins are soft yet present, providing structure without overwhelming the palate. This wine is dry, making it exceptionally food-friendly, perfect for pairing with hearty Italian dishes or grilled meats, allowing the rich flavors to shine.

Puglia

The heel of Italy's "boot," sunny Puglia (the "g" is silent), is famed for its olive oils, almonds and of course, its rich, full-bodied wines. Although dry and intensely hot in the summer, Puglia has coastlines on three sides, providing cool Mediterranean breezes to alleviate the daytime heat. Primitivo (known in the US as Zinfandel) does well here, with other popular red varieties including Sangiovese and Negroamaro. But it is not all about reds in Puglia: the local Fiano grape produces gloriously nutty, tropical-flavored white, while Falanghina makes intensely fruity wines with citrus blossom notes.
