Amador County

Southeast of Sacramento, Amador County in California is nestled up against the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Running west to east, the region experiences a diurnal temperature shift that is extremely common within California's wine regions. Hot and sunny days, where temperatures sometimes can reach 100 degrees during the peak of summer, are mitigated by winds coming off the nearby mountains, which lead to cooler evenings. This shift allows grapes ample time for ripening during the day while developing natural acidity at night. Because of the dry and hot climate, bigger varietals like Zinfandel thrive in the environment.
