2016 Puglia Sangiovese

Messer del Fauno's 2016 Sangiovese from the Puglia region boasts a medium body, balanced acidity, moderate fruit intensity, and notable tannins. The wine showcases the essence of Sangiovese with its vibrant red color and expressive characteristics. This Sangiovese offers a delightful balance of flavors and textures, making it a versatile and food-friendly option for various occasions.

Tasting notes:

This Sangiovese is velvety, fruity, and fragrant. We think that the wine is perfectly paired with classic southern Italian dishes like veal, meatballs, cured meats, or even roasted eggplant in a red sauce.

Puglia

The heel of Italy's "boot," sunny Puglia (the "g" is silent), is famed for its olive oils, almonds and of course, its rich, full-bodied wines. Although dry and intensely hot in the summer, Puglia has coastlines on three sides, providing cool Mediterranean breezes to alleviate the daytime heat. Primitivo (known in the US as Zinfandel) does well here, with other popular red varieties including Sangiovese and Negroamaro. But it is not all about reds in Puglia: the local Fiano grape produces gloriously nutty, tropical-flavored white, while Falanghina makes intensely fruity wines with citrus blossom notes.
