Merlot

2009 Yakima Valley Merlot

Owen Roe Merlot from the 2009 vintage is a delightful expression of the Yakima Valley's unique terroir. This red wine showcases a medium body that balances richness and elegance, making it approachable and food-friendly. The acidity is bright and refreshing, lending liveliness to the palate while enhancing its overall structure. Tannins are medium and provide a smooth texture, ensuring a refined mouthfeel without overwhelming the fruit. Speaking of fruit, the intensity is prominent, revealing luscious notes of black cherry, plum, and hints of cocoa that weave together beautifully. This wine concludes with a dry finish that leaves a lingering impression, making it a wonderful companion to hearty dishes or a cozy evening on its own.

Yakima Valley
Yakima Valley

Washington's Yakima Valley enjoys 300 days of sunshine per year, thanks to the shelter provided by the Cascade Mountains. And although it is dry here, it has the coolest climate in the Columbia Valley. With innovative irrigation and canopy techniques in the vineyards, Yakima Valley is home to nearly a third of Washington's wine production. Bright sunlight and crisp temperatures result in well-balanced wines with complex flavors and mouthwatering acidity. Fresh, creamy Chardonnay and surprisingly floral Rieslings are the main white wines here. There are also some impressively elegant red Bordeaux-style blends and peppery Syrah with a backbone of rich, dark fruit.
