Mavro

2010 Salento Negroamaro

The Palama Mavro is a captivating red wine made from the Negroamaro grape, hailing from the picturesque Salento region of Italy. This 2010 vintage showcases a deep, rich color that entices the eye, promising the complexity within. Its body is full, providing a robust mouthfeel that envelops the palate with every sip. The acidity is bright and lively, adding a refreshing quality that balances the wine's weight beautifully. Rich fruit intensity radiates through with notes of dark cherries and blackberries, complemented by subtle hints of spice and earthiness. Tannins are firm and structured, enhancing the wine's character while ensuring a graceful aging process. This delightful wine is crafted in a dry style, making it an excellent accompaniment to rich dishes, grilled meats, or a cozy evening by the fireplace.

Region:

Puglia
Puglia

The heel of Italy's "boot," sunny Puglia (the "g" is silent), is famed for its olive oils, almonds and of course, its rich, full-bodied wines. Although dry and intensely hot in the summer, Puglia has coastlines on three sides, providing cool Mediterranean breezes to alleviate the daytime heat. Primitivo (known in the US as Zinfandel) does well here, with other popular red varieties including Sangiovese and Negroamaro. But it is not all about reds in Puglia: the local Fiano grape produces gloriously nutty, tropical-flavored white, while Falanghina makes intensely fruity wines with citrus blossom notes.
