Matthias Peck

2009 Burgenland Zweigelt

Andau Matthias Peck is a delightful red wine crafted from the Zweigelt varietal, hailing from the picturesque Burgenland region of Austria. This 2009 vintage showcases a medium-bodied profile, with well-integrated notes of red cherry, plum, and a hint of pepper that elevate its charm. The acidity is bright and refreshing, enhancing the wine’s overall liveliness while offering a mouthwatering quality that invites another sip. Tannins are approachable and smooth, providing a subtle structure that supports the wine without overshadowing its vibrant fruit character. As a dry wine, it balances elegance and approachability, making it a wonderful choice for both casual gatherings and more formal occasions.

Austria may not be the first country that springs to mind when you think of quality wine, but this slice of central Europe is home to crisp whites and elegant reds that are well worth seeking out. While many classic grapes are grown here, there are exceptional wines made from varieties you rarely see anywhere else, such as white Grüner Veltliner. Spicy and herbaceous, this wine combines notes of white pepper and asparagus with flint and apple. As for reds, the most planted is Zweigelt. This grape is a hybrid of two other local varietals: the spicy Blaufränkisch and light St. Laurent. It combines the best of both worlds with flavors of chocolate, black pepper and fresh raspberry.
