The Province of Pavia is part of the pretty Lombardy plain in northwestern Italy, lying south of Milan and east of Piedmont. Without any famous wines to its name, it is something of an unsung area, but worth exploring as wine quality can be very high. As befits the area's long and rich history, there is a diversity of grape varieties and wine styles, including sweet whites and sparkling reds.
