Masterworks Series 2019 Sangiovese Puglia IGT, Italy

2019 Puglia Sangiovese

The Masterworks Series 2019 Sangiovese from Puglia IGT, Italy, is a beautifully balanced red wine with a medium body that offers a delightful harmony of flavors. The wine showcases a pleasant acidity that enhances the fruit-forward characteristics of the Sangiovese grape, providing a well-rounded and approachable taste profile. The tannins are subtle, allowing the fruit flavors to shine through without overwhelming the palate. This Sangiovese is a true expression of Italian winemaking craftsmanship, radiating the essence of the Puglia region with each sip.

Tasting notes:

Oak drives the aromatic profile of this wine with scents of cedar and vanilla. The modest acidity matches equally gentle tannins, which have a light, dusty character. These subdued textures allow ripe red cherry and sweet blueberry flavors to shine before vanilla takes over on the finish.

Puglia
Puglia

The heel of Italy's "boot," sunny Puglia (the "g" is silent), is famed for its olive oils, almonds and of course, its rich, full-bodied wines. Although dry and intensely hot in the summer, Puglia has coastlines on three sides, providing cool Mediterranean breezes to alleviate the daytime heat. Primitivo (known in the US as Zinfandel) does well here, with other popular red varieties including Sangiovese and Negroamaro. But it is not all about reds in Puglia: the local Fiano grape produces gloriously nutty, tropical-flavored white, while Falanghina makes intensely fruity wines with citrus blossom notes.
