Côtes du Rhône
Côtes du Rhône

Many of France's best-value red wines come from Côtes du Rhône. The appellation covers the entire Rhône Valley, which is responsible for some of the country's boldest wines. Most Côtes du Rhône wine is red, ripe and fruity, made using a technique called semi-carbonic maceration (a method also used frequently in Beaujolais). This adds flavors of kirsch and even banana to the typical notes of black fruit, red fruit and Provençal herbs. Most grapes for Côtes du Rhône are grown on the warm, windswept plains of the Southern Rhône. And, as always for Southern Rhône wines, the GSM (Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre) blend reigns supreme.
