Kalema

2009 Salento Negroamaro

Fabiana Kalema is a captivating expression of Negroamaro that hails from the picturesque Salento region of Italy. This exquisite red wine showcases a medium body that feels both vibrant and engaging on the palate. Acidity is beautifully balanced, lending a refreshing lift to the wine, while the fruit intensity is notably prominent, offering layers of dark cherries and ripe plums infused with hints of earthiness. The tannins present are firm yet approachable, providing structure without overpowering the delightful fruit character. With its off-dry profile, this vintage from 2009 makes for a perfectly versatile companion to various dishes, enhancing the overall dining experience with its complexity and charm.

Region:

Puglia
Puglia

The heel of Italy's "boot," sunny Puglia (the "g" is silent), is famed for its olive oils, almonds and of course, its rich, full-bodied wines. Although dry and intensely hot in the summer, Puglia has coastlines on three sides, providing cool Mediterranean breezes to alleviate the daytime heat. Primitivo (known in the US as Zinfandel) does well here, with other popular red varieties including Sangiovese and Negroamaro. But it is not all about reds in Puglia: the local Fiano grape produces gloriously nutty, tropical-flavored white, while Falanghina makes intensely fruity wines with citrus blossom notes.
