Region:

Paarl

Paarl is one of nine winegrowing districts in the Coastal Region of South Africa. Located just inland of Stellenbosch, near the Atlantic Ocean, temperatures are typically warmer than most coastal areas. Summers are hot and sunny, with daily relief from cool afternoon breezes and chilly nights. The smooth granite domes of Paarl Rock stand 1778 feet tall, serving as a natural landmark among the region's mountainous terrain. Various altitudes, soil types, and aspects support the growth of red and white grape varieties. Red wines from this region are big and bold, featuring Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Pinotage. White wines are primarily made from Chardonnay and Chenin Blanc, leaning fruit-focused with ripe stone fruit and tropical notes.
