I Muri

2012 Puglia Negroamaro

Vigneti Del Salento I Muri is a captivating red wine from the Puglia region, crafted predominantly from the renowned Negroamaro varietal. With a deep garnet hue, this 2012 vintage exudes a rich and inviting character that captures the essence of Southern Italy. The wine displays a medium-bodied profile, striking a perfect balance between vibrant acidity and smooth tannins that provide a delightful structure. Bursting with prominent fruit intensity, expect luscious notes of ripe blackberries and cherries, complemented by subtle hints of spice and earthiness that are characteristic of the region. Notably, it is on the dry side, allowing the complex flavors to shine through without being overwhelmed by sweetness. Ideal for pairing with robust dishes, this wine beautifully showcases the terroir of Puglia while offering an approachable and satisfying tasting experience.

Puglia

The heel of Italy's "boot," sunny Puglia (the "g" is silent), is famed for its olive oils, almonds and of course, its rich, full-bodied wines. Although dry and intensely hot in the summer, Puglia has coastlines on three sides, providing cool Mediterranean breezes to alleviate the daytime heat. Primitivo (known in the US as Zinfandel) does well here, with other popular red varieties including Sangiovese and Negroamaro. But it is not all about reds in Puglia: the local Fiano grape produces gloriously nutty, tropical-flavored white, while Falanghina makes intensely fruity wines with citrus blossom notes.
