I Censi

2011 Salento Negroamaro

Garofano I Censi, a captivating red wine from the renowned Salento region, showcases the unique characteristics of the Negroamaro varietal. This vintage, crafted in 2011, presents a medium-bodied profile that is both approachable and pleasing. The acidity offers a delightful brightness that balances the wine's structure, making it an excellent choice for various culinary pairings. Tannins are present but well-integrated, providing a gentle firmness without overwhelming the palate. The fruit intensity is pronounced, bringing forth rich notes of dark berries and plum, along with subtle hints of spice that add complexity. This dry wine is the perfect complement to heartier dishes, making it a versatile selection for any dining occasion.

Region:

Puglia
Puglia

The heel of Italy's "boot," sunny Puglia (the "g" is silent), is famed for its olive oils, almonds and of course, its rich, full-bodied wines. Although dry and intensely hot in the summer, Puglia has coastlines on three sides, providing cool Mediterranean breezes to alleviate the daytime heat. Primitivo (known in the US as Zinfandel) does well here, with other popular red varieties including Sangiovese and Negroamaro. But it is not all about reds in Puglia: the local Fiano grape produces gloriously nutty, tropical-flavored white, while Falanghina makes intensely fruity wines with citrus blossom notes.
