Maipo Valley

Dubbed the "Bordeaux of South America," Maipo Valley is the beating heart of Chile's wine industry. Lying south of the country's capital, Santiago, but at the northern end of the famous Central Valley, Maipo is famed for its rich red wines made from Cabernet Sauvignon and its lush Bordeaux-style blends featuring Merlot and Carménère too. Maipo Valley enjoys a warm, dry Mediterranean-style climate and is surrounded by mountains with minimal oceanic influence. This helps it produce bold, fruit-forward wines. While these are typically red, some fruity Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc are also made here and are well worth exploring.
