Fírr

2011 Puglia Fiano

Firr Fírr is a delightful expression of Fiano hailing from the sun-kissed region of Puglia. This white wine captivates the eye with its brilliant golden hue, hinting at the richness to come. On the palate, it embodies a medium-bodied character, delivering a satisfying balance that is both refreshing and intriguing. The acidity is bright and lively, enhancing the wine's overall vibrancy, while its fruit intensity is pronounced, showcasing luscious notes of stone fruit and citrus that dance harmoniously in each sip. The wine is bone dry, allowing its complexity to shine without any overt sweetness, making it wonderfully food-friendly for a variety of dishes. With its inviting profile and carefully crafted nuances, Firr Fírr stands out as an excellent representation of Puglia's unique terroir and winemaking artistry.

Puglia
Puglia

The heel of Italy's "boot," sunny Puglia (the "g" is silent), is famed for its olive oils, almonds and of course, its rich, full-bodied wines. Although dry and intensely hot in the summer, Puglia has coastlines on three sides, providing cool Mediterranean breezes to alleviate the daytime heat. Primitivo (known in the US as Zinfandel) does well here, with other popular red varieties including Sangiovese and Negroamaro. But it is not all about reds in Puglia: the local Fiano grape produces gloriously nutty, tropical-flavored white, while Falanghina makes intensely fruity wines with citrus blossom notes.
