Filimei

2007 Salento Negroamaro

L'astore Masseria Filimei showcases the distinctive charm of the Negroamaro varietal from the Salento region, offering a captivating red wine experience. This vintage reveals a medium-bodied structure with a pleasing richness, characterized by its vibrant acidity that invigorates the palate. The fruit intensity presents a prominent profile with luscious flavors of dark cherry and ripe plum, creating a harmonious balance between fruit and earth. Elevated tannins lend notable firmness, enhancing the wine's age-worthiness while contributing to its overall complexity. With a dry finish, this full-bodied wine invites you to savor its depth and character, making it ideal for pairing with hearty Italian dishes or enjoying on its own.

Region:

Puglia
Puglia

The heel of Italy's "boot," sunny Puglia (the "g" is silent), is famed for its olive oils, almonds and of course, its rich, full-bodied wines. Although dry and intensely hot in the summer, Puglia has coastlines on three sides, providing cool Mediterranean breezes to alleviate the daytime heat. Primitivo (known in the US as Zinfandel) does well here, with other popular red varieties including Sangiovese and Negroamaro. But it is not all about reds in Puglia: the local Fiano grape produces gloriously nutty, tropical-flavored white, while Falanghina makes intensely fruity wines with citrus blossom notes.
