Donna Stracca

2007 Salento Negroamaro

The Calosm Donna Stracca is a striking red wine from the Salento region, crafted from the revered Negroamaro varietal. This vintage showcases a full-bodied character, characterized by its profound depth and complexity. The wine's vibrant acidity adds a refreshing brightness, perfectly balancing its rich, prominent fruit intensity. Notes of dark cherry, plum, and subtle hints of spice intertwine beautifully, creating an enticing bouquet. Tannins are firm yet approachable, providing a sturdy structure that supports the wine's lush fruit flavors. As a dry wine, it finishes elegantly, making it a delightful companion for various hearty dishes or a memorable evening on its own.

Region:

Puglia
Puglia

The heel of Italy's "boot," sunny Puglia (the "g" is silent), is famed for its olive oils, almonds and of course, its rich, full-bodied wines. Although dry and intensely hot in the summer, Puglia has coastlines on three sides, providing cool Mediterranean breezes to alleviate the daytime heat. Primitivo (known in the US as Zinfandel) does well here, with other popular red varieties including Sangiovese and Negroamaro. But it is not all about reds in Puglia: the local Fiano grape produces gloriously nutty, tropical-flavored white, while Falanghina makes intensely fruity wines with citrus blossom notes.
