Darione

2011 Puglia Primitivo

Podere Belmantello Darione is a captivating red wine crafted from the Primitivo grape in the sun-drenched region of Puglia, Italy. This vintage from 2011 showcases a full-bodied profile that envelops the palate with its dense texture and rich character. The acidity is bright and lively, providing a delightful freshness that balances the wine's pronounced fruit intensity. Expect bold notes of ripe blackberries and cherries, complemented by subtle undertones of spice and earthiness. The tannins are firm yet well-integrated, adding structure and depth to the wine's overall composition. This splendid example of Puglian winemaking is dry, making it an excellent companion for hearty dishes or a cozy evening by the fire.

Puglia

The heel of Italy's "boot," sunny Puglia (the "g" is silent), is famed for its olive oils, almonds and of course, its rich, full-bodied wines. Although dry and intensely hot in the summer, Puglia has coastlines on three sides, providing cool Mediterranean breezes to alleviate the daytime heat. Primitivo (known in the US as Zinfandel) does well here, with other popular red varieties including Sangiovese and Negroamaro. But it is not all about reds in Puglia: the local Fiano grape produces gloriously nutty, tropical-flavored white, while Falanghina makes intensely fruity wines with citrus blossom notes.
