Chateau Fontaynes' Cuvee Bastien is a rich, full-bodied red wine crafted predominantly from Malbec grapes with a touch of Tannat. Hailing from the Cahors region, this wine boasts a deep red color that hints at its bold and robust character. The Malbec varietal lends a luscious fruit intensity to the blend, complemented by the structured tannins from the Tannat. This wine offers a velvety mouthfeel and a harmonious balance between the fruit flavors and the wine's elegant structure, making it a perfect choice for those who appreciate complex and full-bodied reds.

Cahors

Southwestern France's Cahors region is known for its deep, dark red wines of the same name. This small town on the Lot River is the original home of the Malbec grape, which tastes very different from its modern Argentinean cousins. In Cahors, this juicy grape is known as Côt, and makes leaner and drier wines than New World examples. Expect earthy flavors of dried leaves and cocoa, firm tannins and such a concentration of color (and polyphenols) that Cahors is sometimes known as "black wine." While the majority of Cahors is single-varietal, sometimes Merlot and/or Tannat are blended in. Aged in oak, these wines exhibit intense flavors of dark berry and spice.
